With only 38 months since the opening of the Blue Apron location in Richmond, California, the facility has been cited for massive health and safety code violations. Dangerous conditions, acts of violence, and impossible working demands have plagued the warehouse since its opening. Underpaid and overworked employees are left feeling angry.
After a sweep on September 7 and 8, California Labor Commissioner's Office investigators have fined 18 Los Angeles garment contractors and manufacturers a total of $682,344 for labor law violations.
Salaried workers traditionally have not qualified for overtime. But as pay has lagged for employees classified exempt or salaried and hours only increase, new federal rules will provide welcome relief.
