Biography

Mr. Bacon became a lawyer to pursue his passion of protecting the rights of consumers and employees, and his work focuses on advocating the use of class action litigation as a mechanism to protect those rights and stop unfair corporate practices.  Mr. Bacon’s current practice encompasses a wide variety of consumer and employment matters, including unpaid wages and overtime, missed meal and rest breaks, wrongful terminations, workplace discrimination, TCPA, FDCPA, FCRA, EFTA, unlawful recordings of phone calls, false advertising, and other unfair or deceptive business practices.

Mr. Bacon has spent the vast majority of his career fighting for consumer and employee rights in class action litigation.  Prior to receiving his California bar license, Mr. Bacon worked for the Federal Trade Commission where he assisted in a sweep dubbed “Operation Short Change” against John Beck Amazing Profits and others, as well as an “Immediate Access” and Receivership against a scam boiler room selling fake medical discount cards which were deceptively advertised as part of Obamacare.  He went on to work for Strange & Carpenter, on consumer class actions, including the Toyota Unintended Acceleration Litigation, and then worked at Marlin & Saltzman primarily focusing on wage and hour class action litigation.

Since joining The Law Offices of Todd M. Friedman, P.C., Mr. Bacon has served as the head of litigation for the firm, and oversees, along with Mr. Friedman, the majority of the firm’s class action litigation efforts.  Mr. Bacon has successfully certified numerous class action cases by contested motion, including securing major decisions for consumers in the following cases:

Mr. Bacon has briefed and argued several matters before the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, as well as the Eleventh Circuit, including the case of Steve Gallion v Charter Communications, Inc., Case No. 18-55667.  The oral argument is available here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E9tRKB3soGk. He has also been integrally involved in drafting the firm’s multiple comments written to the FCC petitioning for the importance of establishing strong consumer privacy rights.

Mr. Bacon has been instrumental in resolving dozens of multi-million dollar class action settlements on behalf of consumers and employees, including against such companies as Match Group (Tinder), The Home Depot, Windsor Fashions, Nationstar Mortgage, SCI, and Hewlett Packard.

Mr. Bacon has been Selected as a Super Lawyers Rising Star for each of the past four years – spanning from 2016 to 2019.  The award is reserved for the top 2.5% of attorneys under 40 years of age.

Mr. Bacon is a graduate of the University of California, Los Angeles College of the Law, and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from the Eller College of Management at the University of Arizona.  Prior to attending law school, Mr. Bacon helped found and manage a successful online retailer, which develops and sells alternative energy green lighting products for homes and automobiles.  He is currently admitted to practice in the State of California, as well as in the Ninth Circuit.
